Unless if you are going for an pvp merc to one shot people (end damage will be more important then). What makes the act 2 merc thrive is it's attack speed, this is why scythes are the best kind of weapon for them. He dies pretty much almost immediatly even at high resists. To give an example mine on SP p8 has a duriel's shell, guillies and an insight. Act 2 mercs are absolute pussies on low level and without certain items. Well first of all, it's not really your fault. I guess this is just my way of saying.am I missing something here.have things changed since those halcyon days of yore when I last played ? a Merc, since they are meat shields, and thus the Merc needs way better armor, but I have played all the way thru both NM and Hell in (ancient) times past, and I just don't remember Act II Mercs being so soft. I know you are going to say that an Amazon is ranged and has an easier time surviving vs. Finally, after rezzing him 6 or so times and never even getting to the Dry Hills, I fired him and went back with my tail between my legs and re-hired my Amazon. He died in like 15 seconds !!! I rezzed him and went at it again, but his average time alive was like 2-3 minutes each time. So when I got to Act II, I tossed my faithful lil Amazon, hired a Merc with Holy Freeze aura, gave him the Woestave plus the chest and helm that the Amazon was wearing, and headed out to the desert. After finishing Normal, I was scavenging in a NM Cows game and scored a Woestave Halbred, which looked to me like it would be amazing on a Merc in NM. She was using a bow with 3 gems, did a lot of damage, and her survivability was decent. On my 45 Sorc, I used the Amazon for my follower all the way thru Normal. I guess this is just a "how strange - what do ya'll make of this" post.
